Tavira is one of the oldest towns within the Algarve Portugal. Its main attraction is its architecture. When you walk through Tavira you have the feeling that time has stand still. You just feel the history in the squares and streets in Tavira. Tavira is next to its architecture famous for its fishing industry with tuna fishing in particular. Everywhere in the city center of Tavira you find references to the tuna fishing industry.
Tavira is located right in the middle of the East Algarve Portugal. The East Algarve is the area where the Portuguese take their holidays. You can be assured they do so for a reason. The East Algarve and therefore Tavira still have the Portuguese authenticity but do have all facilities in order to have comfortable stay. This is not only for holidays but also permanent. Tavira is famous for its Tavira Island. This is where the perfect beaches are. On the seaside of Tavira there is the natural park where it is not allowed to hit the beach. It just takes a few minutes by boat and you can enjoy a few miles of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches. The city center has lots of old and traditional buildings. The especially along the river which divides Tavira into two parts. All around the city center you see more recent construction area.
The kind of property being built is pretty divers. The only thing they definitely don’t want in Tavira is very tall buildings. So almost none of the buildings are taller than 5-6 stories. The Properties which are the most popular within the limits of the city of Tavira are townhouses and apartments. These properties are owned around 50% by Portuguese and the 50% by foreigners. This population is reflected in the facilities, services, restaurants and bars which are within the limits of Tavira. Most properties being built are quality properties with good finishing’s with the majority aimed as being used as a holiday home.
There are quite a few small towns surrounding Tavira which are also being developed. The properties here are a bit different though, A lo more detached villas and fewer apartments. The areas around Tavira are Cabanas and Pedras del Rey, both very small villages right at the beach. They have grown considerably and have their main focus on foreign tourism. On the other side of Tavira is the small village Luz de Tavira and the even smaller village of Santa. To the east of Tavira and overlooking the sea can be found the original traditional village of Cacela-a-Velha. This a very rustic small village with only traditional property and real estate here you will find almost no new built properties.
